Mission East’s local partner Zarshedabonu has received a “gold medal” from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Social Protection.

Mission East Managing Director Betina Gollander-Jensen is on a tour of Tajikistan to see Mission East’s relief work among children and young people with disabilities. Here she tells of her first visit to the city of Kulob, where she met the local partner Zarshedabonu, inaugurated the city’s Child Rehabilitation Center, and met the parent group of the children with disabilities who receive help in the center.

Today’s visit was to Kolub, where Mission East has supported the local organization for more than 10 years in creating better conditions for some of the poorest children with disabilities. In fact, after Mission East trained and supported them in the specialized work, Zarshedabonu became so skilled that they received a “gold medal” from Tajikistan’s Ministry of Social Protection.
– The day today was a celebration where the Child Rehabilitation Center was to be reopened after renovation, for which Mission East has paid the costs. I helped open the newly renovated center with about 100 children of different ages, the local authorities, and the local partner.
Betina Gollander-Jensen continues her journey around the country and shares fresh news from Mission East’s relief work. Mission East has been working in Tajikistan since the end of the civil war in 1997 – first with emergency relief, then with water, sanitation, livelihoods, and disaster prevention, then to promote the rights of vulnerable populations and include people with disabilities in schools and communities.
