Now we stand together and fight to rebuild

Yurii fought for Ukraine and fought for his life

Bloodstains on the floor of an abandoned garage. No light, no sounds. Only fear, heavy breathing and pain. Yurii is a father and a husband. But he is also one of the men who, in the first months of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, went out to defend his country.

It was completely unreal, like in a movie, Yurii says. “I’m not aggressive at all, but I had to defend my country.”

Yurii was lucky. His brother found him and got him to the hospital. It took 10 surgeries and months of rehabilitation before he could walk again. And when he was finally ready, he took his first steps—not away, but back in service to his country.

Today, Yurii and other Ukrainian veterans are helping to rebuild what the war has destroyed—in partnership with Mission East. Since the war began, Mission East has worked in some of the hardest-hit areas, shoulder to shoulder with people whose lives have been changed in an instant.

P.S. Life can change in a split second. Can you imagine losing your home while missiles rain down from the sky? Seeing everything you loved lying in a pile of rubble? People like Yurii pick up the bricks again—even after staring death in the face in a dark garage with blood on the floor.

That’s why I keep giving

Bloodstains on the floor of an abandoned garage. No light, no sounds. Only fear, heavy breathing and pain. Yurii is a father and a husband. But he is also one of the men who, in the first months of the invasion of Ukraine in 2022, went out to defend his country.

I am sure that God wants us to do something good with what we are given. And I have always tried to live up to that – even in the periods when it has been difficult.

Karen has always been good at investing and managing her money. She says, “That’s why it makes sense for me to support you [Mission East]. I look at your accounts and see that the administrative costs are low, so that as much money as possible goes to the people we help.” For Karen, giving through Mission East is not just about financial responsibility, but also about trust and values. That’s why, “I also like that Mission East is not too big an organization – but not so small that it can’t be properly monitored to make sure the money goes to the right people.”

The reconstruction of Ukraine today

Today, Yurii and other Ukrainian veterans are helping to rebuild what the war has destroyed – in partnership with Mission East. Since the outbreak of the war, Mission East has worked in some of the hardest-hit areas, shoulder to shoulder with people whose lives have been changed in an instant.

At Mission Øst, we are eternally grateful for our loyal supporters and warmly welcome new supporters. Together, we channel help to places where other organizations and public systems cannot reach. Together, we reach out to those the world has forgotten – in the midst of war, chaos and crisis. When we stand together in faith, hope and love, we can transform small, individual decisions into a collective force for good. Together, we create light in the darkness and create presence and hope for those no one else sees.
