Equipping duty bearers for veteran rehabilitation in Ukraine
Although official data remains classified, estimates suggest that there are currently around 1,2 million veterans in Ukraine, who by the end of the war combined with their affected family members will consitute 5-6 million people – more than 10% of the population. Many veterans are traumatised and have acquired disabilities, and the need for rehabilitation, reintegration, and social support is both substantial and ongoing. Therefore, Ministry of Veterans established the new municipal position ‘Veteran Assistant’, with a social worker-like mandate.
Inclusive eCooking in risk-prone areas of Nigeria
Amplified by negative impacts of the climate crisis, wood fuel is scarce in Borno State in northeastern Nigeria and wood collection is both time-consuming and comes with high security risks due to violent extremist groups operating in the area. The government of Nigeria is recognising the many environmental and social benefits of the new and innovative eCooking technologies as a potential solution, and is therefore working to adopt an eCooking component in the National Clean Cooking Policy Implementation Plan.
Empowerment of Afghan Women in Private Sector
Women in Afghanistan continue to face severe restrictions on access to education, employment and public participation. As a result, women, particularly female-headed households, remain highly vulnerable to poverty, social exclusion, and limited economic opportunities. The restrictive policies imposed by the Taliban constrain women’s participation in socio-economic activities, exacerbating their vulnerability to a variety of protection risks.
