Mission East has repaired and modernized seven schools on the border between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Now, children can get to school safely and receive instruction in heated classrooms, while their parents save money on shoes that were otherwise worn out by long walks to get to school.

Mission East staff are ready to deliver emergency aid in northeastern Afghanistan as soon as security is in place and the money can arrive.
Mission East participated in a conference on September 10, which focused on Afghanistan and how Denmark and especially NGOs act after the takeover of the Taliban. In his speech, Minister for Development Aid Flemming Møller Mortensen promised more money for the NGOs present in Afghanistan and faster case processing for strategic partners such as Mission East.
Mission East's Managing Director Betina Gollander-Jensen has just returned from a week-long trip to Tajikistan close to the border of Afghanistan. Here she saw first-hand the work among children with disabilities and projects that ensure clean water and proper sanitation for the local population.
Managing Director Betina Gollander-Jensen met Maria in the Tajik city of Kulob, where Mission East supports a rehabilitation center for children with disabilities. Maria suffers from muscular dystrophy, but has still been able to complete the high school exam with top grades and must now study law at university.
