Significant civilian and humanitarian support
Yesterday, Mission East had the pleasure of participating in the launch of the Danish Ukraine Fund, which the Danish government and a broad majority in the Danish Parliament have agreed on.
"Unfortunately, we have to realize that the war in Ukraine may continue for some time, perhaps several years. The Danish Ukraine Fund creates a platform for the different Danish activities to work together, whether by doing development aid or as a private company," says Betina Gollander-Jensen, Secretary General of Mission East.
The fund will have a total framework of DKK 7 billion and will integrate military, commercial, and civilian efforts. The civilian response is the activities carried out by Mission East and other organisations. For this civilian effort, DKK 1.2 billion has been set aside in 2023 for emergency humanitarian activities and long-term reconstruction.
"Denmark must of course help in Ukraine. At the same time, I hope that the government in the upcoming Finance Act will also remember that many other people in other countries are suffering. We must continue to show compassion and support to those in need, whether they are in Syria, Nigeria, or Ukraine," says Betina Gollander-Jensen.
