VOICE: Voicing for Equality and Justice for Women in Karnali
Empowering women and girls is a challenging process, particularly in the case of rural Nepal poverty is rife, and where remote communities live a traditional lifestyle. For change to happen, and women to suffer less discrimination, the support of their family members and society is essential. In this context, the project has envisioned to capacitate women and civil society organisations for better inclusion and development in the Karnali region. The project partners (Mission East, KIRDARC and WWS) will assist both the government and communities to be responsive towards women and girls needs by providing safe, supportive environment at homes and society. Women and girls (individually and in groups) will be helped to enhance their life-skills and level of confidence. This will help them to participate in development efforts at local level - which will benefit the whole community.
The project's overall development aim is to empower women and civil society organisations for better inclusion and development in the Karnali Zone, Nepal.
The immediate objectives of the project are as follows.
By the end of the project:
1) Women & Girls have adequate knowledge, skills and capacity to fight discrimination and violence and their family and wider society have positive attitude, perceptions and behaviour towards them.
2) Civil Society has better capacity and stronger networks to complement government efforts, work as watchdogs, influence local policy decisions (resource allocations, programing, etc.) in favour of right holders, forward accountability
3) Local Government structures (VDCs and DDCs) are more inclusive, and accountable
